One Room Challenge- Let's Swing into Week 4

Updated: Feb 9

Hello and welcome! If you are new to the blog, my name is Brenda, lead designer of BD Interior Design; an interior design studio here in Toronto Canada.

This Spring I decided to join the One Room Challenge! If you are not familiar with the One Room Challenge (ORC), it is a biannual event where designers (re)design one room over a six week period and share weekly progress of our journey. And the icing on the cake; BETTER HOMES & GARDENS IS THE OFFICIAL MEDIA PARTNER OF THE ORC! If you're new to my blog, click here for a 2 minute read about week 1 plan reveal, you can also click here for week two and three . This week I am sharing updates on progress and custom wood pieces by Studio Gokule.

You may be aware that I am redesigning a girls room for my daughters age 4 and 6. I must say, this week has been slow progress. My plan was to install a wall mural that I designed as well as an indoor swing. Let's just say I was able to get as far as installing the swing. I am thankful to Studio Gokule for this hand crafted swing seen below. The flat horizontally positioned piece of wood forms the base of the swing and its seating area for the girls. I opted for a painted finish at the base to tie into my design.

Another custom piece is this wood table also designed by Studio Gokule. This will be used as a bedside table. The swing and the table have been painted with this beautiful blue.

Check below image for my inspiration on adding paint to the wood. I also drew inspiration from the blue hints in the rug (refer to mood board).

Below is my mood board for the design. As of now, I can cross off major items like the painting, purchase of bed, bedside table and wallpaper. While I wait for rug delivery, my next step is to order a light fixture. There are other decorative items remaining however, I am extremely thankful that my local Homesense is open also known as Home Goods for my fellow Americans.

It looks like you'll have to wait one more week for the wallpaper installation. I'm sure it will be worth the wait!

And there you have it, week 4 of the one room challenge. Don't forget to click here to check out the other designers on this journey.

Until next week!
